Tattoo Don’ts

What not to do with your new ink

Don’t touch your tattoo with dirty hands!

  • Always wash your hands before cleaning/touching your tattoo.
  • Avoid touching your tattoo unnecessarily.
  • DO NOT allow other people to touch your tattoo until after it is completely healed.

Don’t pick the scabs or scratch your tattoo!

  • Your fingers/fingernails could transfer bacteria.
  • Your tattoo is an open wound and vulnerable to infection during the healing process.
  • Let the scabs fall off by themselves or gently wash them off in the shower.

***It is very important to not pick at any scabs that may have formed as you can take an entire section of ink off with it leaving your tattoo patchy when it’s fully healed!!!***

Don’t apply any products on your tattoo that your artist did not recommend!

  • Especially products with fragrance as an ingredient or products containing petroleum/mineral oils

Don't over-moisturize your tattoo!

  • You should never use excess lotion/oils as they may over-moisten your tattoo and even undo some of the healing it already went through.
  • This can create a moist environment for bacteria to grow.

Don’t submerge your new tattoo under water for at least 6 weeks after your appointment!

  • That means no swimming, no hot springs, no waterfalls, no beach/ocean, no lakes/ rivers, no baths, no pools, no soaking, no saunas or allowing sweat to sit on your tattoo.
  • You can get your tattoo wet in the shower but limit the amount of water you allow on your tattoo.

    • Wet tattoos don’t heal properly, especially if exposed to water that carries bacteria.

Don’t wear tight clothing on your tattoo! It can cause irritation!

Don't go tanning, noteven a spray on one.
